 My Counseling Approach:

I believe that you have the wisdom to know what you need for healing. It is my job as your counselor to be your guide and companion as you find those solutions that work for you. I do that through creating an environment that encourages your own personal growth. This environment includes an unconditional positive guard for the client, non-judgement and empathy. This is also known as "person centered" approach to therapy.

There are times when a person can benefit from support in addition to a positive environment for healing and growth. When it fits the individuals therapy goals I also integrate narrative therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. Dialectical behavioral therapy skills is yet another approach I am comfortable with accessing.  Psycho-education is also important in my therapeutic relationships with clients. Counseling should not be a mysterious process. I share with you techniques and information I have learned that would be beneficial to your counseling goals as well as the evidence and research to support why it could be helpful to you.

Most importantly, when I establish a therapeutic relationship with a client I listen to understand what you truly hope to gain from therapy. Together as part of your treatment team we discuss which of your goals are most important to you. Most important Is that we move in the direction of your therapeutic goals, and adjust those goals when needed.
